Whether by surface or air, transport relies on high temperature insulation for safety and efficiency. Insulation benefits for transportation include heat shields, battery insulation, fire protection and insulation for data recorders.
Elmelin supports the aerospace and automotive industries, alongside other specialised transportation sectors, including the military. Our high temperature insulation solutions provide assurance and ensure safety in situations where extreme conditions are frequently a normal operating environment.
What is mica? Whilst it may not be immediately familiar to many, it is a widely-used mineral in many industrial processes and different products. There are various mica properties that make it versatile for multiple uses. Due to its high thermal resistance, it is an excellent industrial insulation material. It offers resistance to electricity, light and moisture, making it ideal for a range of applications across different sectors.
A significant aspect of human history and progress is the story of how we have harnessed and channelled what the natural world can offer us. This includes industrial minerals such as mica.
As high temperature insulation specialists, we manufacture different mica-based products, including mica roll and mica sheets, and we use it in various thermal management solutions and other industrial insulation applications.
Tuesday 1 May is International Workers’ Day, and to mark it, we’re looking at foundries through the ages, their contribution to British manufacturing, and how industrial insulation is helping ensure foundries are fit for the future.
The history of foundries is tied up with the history of human labour, and of finding means to work smarter and better. It is about how we discovered casting as a way of taking elements from nature and bending and shaping them for our use.
28 April 2018 is the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, or SafeDay for short. As specialists in high temperature insulation, health and safety issues are core drivers for what we do.
Foundry insulation is vital when it comes to foundry safety basics. Foundries work with extreme heat, using intense temperatures to melt metal and pour it into moulds. Due to the acute and constant levels of heat that they involve, these processes, therefore, carry a large amount of risk.
Specialising in high temperature insulation means we work across a broad range of sectors, providing essential solutions and support to different industries. In fact, the versatility of mica, mica-based products and microporous technology results in so many applications that, for some manufacturers, they may benefit from what we offer without immediately realising the extent.
For example, you will find mica insulation in a great many consumer appliances, where a thermal barrier is an essential component for either heating or electrical purposes.
The benefits of mica are huge. Mica is a naturally occurring mineral and there are over 30 different kinds, but the two most commonly mined members of this mineral family are muscovite (white mica) and phlogopite (green mica). Both have certain physical properties making them uniquely suited to a range of industrial and manufacturing applications. Essentially, mica is a resilient insulation material, and because of its physical makeup, it can split into thin sheets, which retain these superb insulation properties. The thinness of mica means it is extremely versatile and adaptable.
Elmelin is a London-based company of high temperature insulation specialists with a long history. However, our focus is firmly on the future, and the here and now, because we believe that technological excellence in industrial insulation solutions is an ongoing process.
Who are we? We’re specialist manufacturers and problem-solvers. We’ve changed as our processes have changed, to meet the challenges of a broad client-base. High temperature insulation is essential to so many industries, and our history reflects our shift in specialisation.
