Reflecting on 2020

Reflecting on 2020

The phrases used to describe the events of 2020 have now become a little cliché – but there’s no doubt it has been a very challenging year for every individual and every business on a global scale. We’ve come across challenges we’ve never seen before and had to adapt at an incredible pace in order to maintain our strong financial position and support our customers and our employees.

The main thing that strikes us as we sit here and reflect on 2020 is that given the journey we were on last year, and had we known what would happen, we would probably look to 2020 with a sense of impending disaster.

But with the continued support of our valued customers as well as new ones, we are able to move forward into 2021 with hope. The last 3 months of 2020 have been some of our strongest, and while we expect bumps in the road ahead – Brexit shaped bumps – we are buoyed by the progress we have managed to make in 2020 despite so many setbacks.

Being forced to make difficult but necessary decisions to scale down business activities earlier in the year actually gave us some reflection time as leaders of the business. As a result, we are heading into the new year with a clearer vision and processes that are more robust than we have ever had before. This has been aided by some new additions to our team, who have been able to provide a valuable perspective on the way we do things, and help us to evolve as a business.

Building on our foundation of valued long-term customer relationships, this year we have also been pleased to branch out into new markets and new opportunities. We continue to work with existing and new customers to design and produce innovative solutions to complex and evolving problems in a variety of markets. We’re particularly excited about the strides we’ve made around battery insulation solutions, largely focusing on the electric vehicle market. We’re looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and being able to showcase and discuss these solutions at The Battery Show Europe in May 2021.

Increasing our product offering as well as our customer base has led to further growth in our team. We are bringing in a new Technical Account Manager in January, and are currently looking for a Factory Operator and a Machine Operator to join us in the new year.

In summary, 2020 has, as it has been for so many businesses, been a mixed bag for us. That being said, we feel extremely lucky but also proud of the work we have to be able to finish the year on a high. We’re heading into 2021 feeling positive about the future, the work we’re doing and the innovations we continue to create.

We’d like to wish all of our customers and partners a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to working with you with a fresh sense of opportunity in 2021.
