Our vision for net zero
At Elmelin, we are incredibly conscious of understanding the wider impact of our work at a global level. Last year, we joined the Responsible Mica Initiative – cementing our commitment to sourcing mica responsibility and building a sustainable supply chain. Here we provide an update on our net zero vision.
The attention of governments, businesses and individuals all over the world is now being focused on a very real, ever-present threat: climate change. 2020 was the hottest year on record – being 1.2°C warmer than any year during the pre-industrial period. The current rate of temperature increase seriously threatens our oceans and ecosystems that make life on this planet possible.
The UK was one of the first countries to put into law a target of net zero carbon emissions by the year 2050. As a result of this, many supplementary initiatives are being bought in to control some of the biggest contributors to emissions.
We are acutely aware of the urgency of the situation. That’s why we’re making it our number one priority going forward to focusing on designing our processes around carbon neutrality, and to design and develop technologies to help our customers to do the same.
With that in mind, we’re proud to launch an updated net zero vision:
Elmelin’s products enable net zero carbon solutions.
We use our proprietary technology to help our customers reduce their environmental impact and tackle climate change.
Having been producing mica-based solutions for over a century, we’ve traditionally been successful in heavy industry – our biggest focus and solutions going into foundry and steel, for example. While we continue to support our clients in these industries understand how they can reduce their environmental impact, we are also broadening our focus to other sectors, particularly around alternative energy solutions.
Over the last few years we have focused more time and energy on battery solutions, particularly in the automotive industry as electric vehicles evolve and become more prominent. As battery technology will become more vital in a net zero world, we are renewing this focus and expanding on our developed expertise in this area to develop battery storage solutions.
We are also broadening our focus into new areas, exploring solutions around alternative fuel, such as hydrogen, and also how our solutions can help with domestic applications such as low-carbon heating and off-grid power storage.
Achieving net zero is not about the actions of one company, one industry, one country. It’s about understanding the challenges throughout the supply chain and the global landscape, and how each and every single element of a product, solution or process impacts our environment.
We’re ready to make a difference and take our customers on that journey with us. If you’d like to find out more about our net zero solutions, get in touch.
