But how does it work ?

The Basic ingredient for the highly efficient insulation effect of Elmtherm is a micro dispersed silica.
Between the spherical, and microporous particles, only punctual transitions are able to form. This reduces thermal transfer by possible contact between solids to a large extend. In addition, the created micro pores minimize heat transfer by convection. Specially developed infrared opacifiers, additionally reduce heat transport processes by absorption and reflection of radiation.

Elmtherm is not a hazardous material as defined in EU directive 2006/1906/EEC.
The fibres used for mechanical reinforcement of Elmtherm are not respirable as defined by WHO.
Elmtherm does not liberate hazardous decomposition products and, as far as is known at present, does not cause any problems to hunam health.
The Elmtherm 1000 range is made from a formulation of an opacified blend of filament reinforced pyrogenic silica which allows the production of boards with the lowest thermal conductivity of any industrial insulating product. Capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 950 °C, Elmtherm 1000 is ideally suited for use in Power plants, Cement industry and the metal melting industry. Elmtherm 1000 panels are flexible microporous insulation panels which are easy to cut and shape with standard tools. The panels are available in various packing such as PE-Foil, Aluminium Foil, Glass fibre and vacuum, what makes them clean & easy to handle.
The Elmtherm 1100 range is made from a similar formulation as the Elmtherm 1000 but because of its higher Zirkonia content is capable to withstand temperature of uo to 1100°C.  Elmtherm 1100 panels are flexible microporous insulation panels which are easy to cut and shape with standard tools. The panels are available in various packing such as PE-Foil, Aluminium Foil, Glass fibre and vacuum, what makes them clean & easy to handle.
The Elmtherm Composite Range has been developed to work in harsher environments than our standard 1000 or 1100 ranges, but some of our customers have applicationswith more demanding requirements. Elmelin work with industry leading  manufacturers to develop bespoke composite solutions for niche application.
With this range we cover temperature ranges up to 1600 ° C in steps of 200 ° C. Naturally we design this to get the best thermal conductivity. We will as an  example sandwich a microporous product and ceramic fiber board. The ceramic board acts as an initial heat shield and reduce the temperature hitting the  microporous.
